Just Because

Emma over at Polkadoodle's decided the challenge this week is "All of a flutter - use pretty things with wings." I created a cute notepad holder using elements from the Double Sprinkle of Kraft CD-ROM from Polkadoodles.

Front view of the note pad. Did you notice the raised flowers?  I used a product called Liquid Applique in white and pink. You can go here to learn more about this Liquid Applique which I have posted previously here.

Inside view of the note pad. This makes a very simple and sweet gift for a friend or co-worker. Start with solid cardstock measuring 5 1/4 x 7 3/4. Score on the long side (7 3/4) at 3 3/4 & 4 inches.  Adhere sticky pad.

Life is a Matter of Moments

I got this idea from Sandi MacIver's instructions. I love the SU Elements of Style stamp set for this creation. I did choose different colors than her original creations. I think this layout would work for all color choices. The stamped image was water colored. I love how the Top Note die works so well with the new Decorated Label punch. The punch fits perfectly in the center of the Top Note die. Are you impressed with this shabby chic card? Challenges I participated in: Make it colorful - Colour with Blue, Come and Get It Challenges - Green, Brown and Blue, Kaboodle Doodles - Flowers as main focus, Make it Monday - Anything Goes.

Scooter

This week's Polkadoodle challenge is to make something for your dad or another man in your life. Today, I want to share a card I design using the Not for Girls CD-ROM from Polkadoodles.

I choose to work with the scooter collection. The digital background paper was printed out and then ran through an argyle embossing folder.
Then I printed the other layers out three times and layered them with 3-d tape. Next, I added two antique brads which gives the card a masculine appearance. You could create a girls card by simply putting rhinestones or pearls in place of the antique brads. You have a super scooter weekend!
Challenges I participated in:

Craft Tip #11: Baker's Twine

During a search I came across this title “Make Your Own Baker’s Twine”…yes, I thought, how! How could I use this in my card making? All the beautiful colors.
Just some basic supplies and you too can make your own. Would this be something you would do? Please leave a comment......Click here to view a video on how to make your own baker's twine.

Paper Bag Lanterns

Aren’t these pretty? I love all the different colors and they would make a simple centerpiece or would look great hanging in garland fashion across the tree limb, eve of the porch or anywhere.
With the end of school, beginning of summer, graduations and 4th of July on the horizon as well, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate and have a party. Inserting a flameless candle or tealight inside would give it a natural glow at night. Click here to see how to make these paper bag lanterns.

For my crafting friends; How about stamping all over a plain white or brown bag with stamps, sticks, ribbon? Now you have one more decoration to add to your list.

Birthday Bear

Well here we are into May already. I can't believe how fast time goes by..

To create today's card, you will need to stamp the birthday bear image from Creative Vision's Hip Hip Hooray set on white card stock. I choose to color the birthday bear with Copic markers. Did you notice the oval emboss frame? You too can re-create this by using an oval photo mat. You will need to insert your white cardstock into an embossing folder of your choice, next layer on top of the folder your oval photo mat. Next, run the stack through a die cut machine. The center of the oval will be smooth which is perfect surface for stamping.

Craft Tip #8: Sharpening Punches

Punched out shapes are excellent additions to your stamped art. Ornaments and embellishments can be used for accents, and are especially eye-catching when cut from metallic paper, brightly contrasting colored paper or paper that has been inked and heat embossed with sparkle powder. The corners of cards or layers can be rounded or punched to add elegance.

I know we've seen at least one of these ideas, but here are a couple of new ones: Punch through waxed paper several times to lubricate the blades. When the cuts from the punch are no longer as clean, punch through very fine sandpaper several times to sharpen the blades. If the punch is sticking or tearing the paper, you can also punch through aluminum foil in addition to the waxed paper and sandpaper.

Birthday Girl

Happy Monday! I woke up early today with another busy week ahead of me. I had a fun time over the weekend creating a monochromatic project to share with you.

I wanted to create a card which is different than the standard card size. This card is 4 x 8 which I embossed with the Swiss & Dot embossing folder leaving a small space smooth. This smooth space allowed me to stamp and emboss the sentiment 'Birthday Girl' from the Hip Hip Hooray Stamp set by Creative Vision.

Craft Tip #7: Mulberry Paper

Here's a tip on what to do with all that mulberry paper you have sitting around. Mulberry paper is often used as an accent or part of a layered effect in collage, scrapbooking, rubber stamping and other paper arts. I love the lightweight feel to it, but I also love strong color. Here's a perfect way to marry the two.

Stamp and heat emboss with clear embossing powder onto it. Add a couple colors of watercolor paint and let dry.

Easy peasy, lots of eye popping color, and if you want to go back to old school, you can even tear a nice feathered edge. Perfect for cards and other small projects.

Heated Pearls

Hello everyone. I'm excited to share a technique with you today. The background of this card was created using a technique called heated pearls.

To create the background mix school glue and bronze Pearl Ex powder together and then stippled mixture onto the glossy paper which was brayed with purple ink. Heat set the mixture once it is applied. As you heat set the mixture bubbles will start to appear. The digital element I used for my focal point is from Polkadoodles All Around & Everywhere cd. Craft Tip #6: Pearl Ex Powders

Pearl Ex powdered pigments are simply a dry powdered form of color which has some sparkle to it. You can use it as a dry powder or mix it into something and apply it wet as a paint.

Pearl Ex powdered pigments can be used in a wide variety of ways. The key to understanding them is simply to experiment with them. I'll give you a few ideas to get your started. This is pretty much what I like to do and what I have found that works for me.

Put hairspray and dollop of Pearl Ex in spray bottle, spray on paper for shimmery look. You will keep adding the Pearl Ex until you get the right amount of simmer. Download a Printable Pearl Ex Tip Sheet.

Here is a video on rubber stamping with Pearl Ex by night cats.

You're Out Of This World

Welcome my friends, just want to start off by saying you are out of this world. I have created a Birthday spinner card to share with you this week. I used the sentiment from the Hip Hip Hooray set by Creative Vision. I'm sure any young boy would love receiving this interactive card.

The moon was created using a 1 1/4 circle, small and large oval punches. I then ran the circle through an embossing folder. I used the word window punch to create the slot for the rocket but, you could use a kraft knife and ruler. The digital paper and rocket element are from the Not for Girls Definitely for Men CD created byPolkadoodles.

Spinner cards are highly addictive. If you start to steal pennies from your child's piggy bank, or you stumble across them; I'm sure you will enjoy making one. Start collecting your pennies now! Click here for a tutorial on how to make a spinner card.
